Some time last year my best friend (Monday) and I decided to go to Fisherman’s Camp on the shores of Lake Naivasha. It is an extension from a  beautiful canopy of acacia trees up into the hills, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding areas.

We are trying to do a monthly Travel on a budget series where we will teach you guys how to travel without breaking the bank. To get to Naivasha, we took three Matatus; Nairobi-Naivasha then another to the camp which cost us a total of Ksh 200.  Just an hour and a half from Nairobi, it offers a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city,to relax by the lake or set yourself for an amazing Kenyan adventure!

We first arrived at the Bottom Camp, at the shore of Lake Naivasha which is a beautiful campground covered by acacia trees, which house a wide variety of wildlife such as the resident colobus monkeys, lovebirds, African Fish Eagles and the occasional marabou stork. You can even watch hippo grazing at dusk from your tent – but don’t worry, an electric fence deters them from venturing into the main camp! Tents can also be hired on request and they also have 4 rustic bandas (chalet) with toilet and hot shower and a fully equipped cottage if you prefer to sleep in more comfort.

We however stayed at the Top Camp which sits above South Lake Road and looks out over Lake Naivasha with breathtaking views of the Aberdare Mountains. It was quite a hike but the views were definitely worth it.  They have a number of cottages to suit a range of budgets, all with a veranda looking out to the Lake.

The prices are as follows:

Fisherman’s Top camp, (overlooking the lake) 0792597228.

Kusini cottage (4 pax), Kwazi cottage (3 pax)and Kitete cottage(4 pax)

Karibu cottage(5 pax)
12,000/-
Kongoni banda (5 pax)
5,000/-
Little Kwazi and other small bandas (2 pax) 1,000/- (communal showers and loo.)

We happen to stay at Little Kwazi which was a lovely little cottage and it only cost us Ksh 1000 each! Can you believe that?

The Fisherman’s camp has a that Bar overlooks the campground and offers a wide variety of meals, from traditional ugali, tasty local steaks to a hearty fry up, not to mention a cold Tusker beer or honey Dawa cocktail as you watch the sun go down.

I definitely recommend you to go and visit this beautiful cottage, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a cold Tusker beer whilst watching the hippo grazing at the lake shores. Safari njema!

A few months back I went shopping with Monday in a vintage market aka Toi market on look out for the  perfect silky slip dress.

However, This day wasn’t a win for me as I only got this one and was stuck between buying it or not because it wasnt exactly what I was looking for then it hit me: YES buy it, it’ll make the perfect casual chic even glam dress once it gets sunny again.

This 90’s trend is officially back. Now landing as one of closet essentials, The slip dress (or pajama-style cami dress) is making it’s way through the fashion world to become a celebrity and street style favorite. The most popular way to style it: slip dress over t-shirt.

However, I know that the slip dress isn’t an easy one to pull off. With its silky figure hugging design, it can be quite daunting trying to wear a dress which quite frankly looks like lingerie.

It’s a perfect outfit for running around in the Nairobi heat.  I went for the really retro route by wearing a t-shirt underneath and adding a vintage denim jacket. Paired with this cool hat, my go-to wedge sneakers of the moment  which adds a little edge to my look and not to mention, super comfortable which is so important.

Outfit Details

Hat and Dress: Thrifted Toi Market

Chocker: Forever 21

Jacket: Valentino

Tshirt: Zara

Shoes: Atmosphere

If you’re after something a little more fashionista, try a pair of ankle boots completed with a denim jacket; you’ll certainly turn heads with this number.

I love the versatility of these two pieces – rocking the tee with a pair of jeans or wearing the slip dress by itself for a night out on the town is definitely in my future. These are two key pieces in my wardrobe I know I’ll be wearing on repeat.

Though the slip dress may seem like a daring addition to the wardrobe, it really can be worn in many, many ways making it a fashion must have.

I can’t wait till it warms up a bit and I can work the bare legs look more often too. I think this dress would look really nice with ankle boots as well so that’s how I’m going to wear it next time.

What is your favourite way to wear a slip dress?

Stay stylish,

Kadenyi.
